Camoflauge roads closed to motorized traffic by placing down limbs and other natural material in the old road. This allows hikers to use designated trails and deters motorized users.
PROJECT DETAILS: Camoflauge roads closed to motorized traffic by placing down limbs and other natural material in the old road. This encourages hikers to use designated trails and deters motorized users. The work is relatively easy and provides a great way to get to know the Badlands. We will carpool from ONDA or you can meet us at trailhead yet to be determined.
BACKGROUND: Recognizing the need to provide recreation opportunities for non-motorized users, protect natural resources, and minimize conflicts among visitors, the BLM closed the Badlands to motorized use in their 2005 Resource Management Plan. In order to encourage use of designated routes and to deter ATV users from using the closed trails, these road closures will both camoflauge the old trails and make it difficult for motorized users to take. Eliminating use of these roads will allow them to eventually go back to a natural habitat.
COST: Free
A FULL ITINERARY, INCLUDING WHAT TO BRING, WILL BE PROVIDED UPON REGISTRATION.
