After roughly 14 years, the fence is nearly gone from Hart Mountain. Help remove some of the last, and enjoy a soak in the hot springs at the end of the day.
PROJECT DETAILS: On what other fence pull do you get the luxury of soaking in hot springs after a long days work? Spring rains will determine where we end up this year. It will be in the south end of the refuge, but the exact location won't be known for a couple months.
WHEN: Arrive at Hart Mountain on August 22nd and plan to depart on the 26th. There will be a day of down time to relax and explore.
BACKGROUND: In 1932 a select group of conservation-minded state and community leaders, called the Order of the Antelope, met on Hart Mountain to discuss the plight of the pronghorn. December 21, 1936, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt signd a proclamation creating the 250,000-acre Hart Mountain Antelope Refuge. Although the lands were previously grazed,
Hart Mountain has been cow-free for over 13
years and the abundant wildlife and healthy landscape is proof.
COST: Free to ONDA members, $45 for non-members.
A FULL ITINERARY, INCLUDING WHAT TO BRING, WILL BE PROVIDED UPON REGISTRATION.
