Steelhead are starting to make their way up tributaries of the John Day River, including Pine Creek in Robinson Canyon, where we will be planting cottonwood branches to help stabilize the stream banks. We will be camping near by.
Annual Membership Meeting
Members and non-members are welcome to join ONDA at Hancock field station to participate in a weekend of desert restoration, salmon bake and bluegrass music by BendNStrings
Sage Grouse Lek Monitoring
Calling all bird lovers and morning risers: Head out to Hart Mountain for a weekend of sage grouse counting, hiking and hot springs. If this weekend doesn't work for you, the refuge needs volunteers from March 15-April 30.
John Day River Float and Fence Pull
Ouzel Outfitters will be our guide down the John Day River to our work site on Pine Creek Conservation Area. One of the four days will be spent pulling fence, and the others will be rafting and exploring the area.
Road Closure
Camoflauge roads closed to motorized traffic by placing down limbs and other natural material in the old road. This allows hikers to use designated trails and deters motorized users.

WANTED: Lean, mean crew of experienced fence pullers to hike up Wildhorse Canyon and remove the last of the barbed-wire fence. Views of Alvord Desert and Pueblo Mountains, camp in Aspen Grove at 7000'. Strenuous work and hike.

After roughly 14 years, the fence is nearly gone from Hart Mountain. Help remove some of the last, and enjoy a soak in the hot springs at the end of the day.

If the Steens are too far to go for a fence pull, a day trip to Sutton Mountain WSA (less than an hour from Prineville) will be the perfect trip. Near to the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, the geology in this area is fascinating.
