Hart Mountain Fence Pull July 27-31

PROJECT DETAILS: On what other fence pull do you get the luxury of soaking in hot springs after a long days work?

There are only 12 miles of fence left to pull at Hart Mountain, but the last steps are always the toughest...  The remaining fences are back up in some wetter areas of the refuge: So, this trip is planned for as late in the season as possible to allow the sites to dry out, but not so late as to overlap with hunting season.  In the end, the accessibility of the sites will depend on the weather.

WHEN: Arrive at Hart Mountain on July 27th and plan to depart on the 31st .  There will be a day of "down time" to relax and explore.

BACKGROUND: In 1932 a select group of conservation-minded state and community leaders, called the Order of the Antelope, met on Hart Mountain to discuss the plight of the pronghorn.  December 21, 1936, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt signed a proclamation creating the 250,000-acre Hart Mountain Antelope Refuge.  Although the lands were previously grazed, Hart Mountain has been cow-free for over 13 years and the abundant wildlife and healthy landscape is proof of the valuable conservation efforts made there.

COST: Free to ONDA members, $45 for non-members.

A FULL ITINERARY, INCLUDING WHAT TO BRING, WILL BE PROVIDED UPON REGISTRATION. To aid in our planning, on your registration form "comments" please indicate: Your general hiking ability (high, medium, low) and if you have participated on this trip previously.
