Volunteer with ONDA

The purpose of ONDA's Volunteer Program is to introduce people to Oregon's high desert, restore and preserve its wilderness qualities, and grow advocates for its long lasting protection. We invite you to join us.

ONDA invites you to get to know your local desert!

GroupA rewarding way to get involved in desert and wild lands preservation is by volunteering on a restoration project. Our native deserts require active public stewardship in order to flourish.  ONDA leads a number of volunteer trips each year ranging from multi-day backpacking trips to single day hikes. The trips focus on the removal of obsolete barbed wire fence, road closures, riparian restoration, wilderness inventory and invasive species control.  Our destinations are Steens Mountain Wilderness, Hart Mountain National Antelope Refuge, Pine Creek Conservation Area, Sutton Mountain WSA and Badlands WSA.

Read an article by Elizabeth Grossman about an ONDA fence pull on Hart Mountain, "Where the Pronghorn Roam Free" (published with permission by Elizabeth Grossman).

ONDA also needs volunteers for other various projects such as tabeling at events, distributing our newsletter, office work, and more. There are many opportunities to join ONDA on behalf of Oregon's native high deserts.

The purpose of ONDA's Volunteer Program is to introduce people to Oregon's high desert, restore and preserve its wilderness qualities, and grow advocates for its long lasting protection.
