YOU ARE INVITED to join ONDA staff, Board of Directors and members for our Annual Membership Meeting and to help remove old barbed-wire fence at the 35,000-acre conservation property near the John Day River, owned by the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs. We’ll be staying at the comfortable facilities of the Hancock Field Station. This is an excellent opportunity for ONDA members to meet, talk, hike, and enjoy the beauty and solace of the High Desert. Our hard work will be rewarded with a salmon bake by tribal members and an evening of entertainment with local bluegrass band Bare Roots. We hope to see you there!
This year we will be helping the Pine Creek Conservation Area by removing fence along Highway 218. For those with younger children a trip to help the nursery at Clarno will involve planting willows and cottonwood tree cuttings and caging the young trees.
Hancock Field Station sits just two miles from the banks of the John Day River near Clarno, Oregon. The beautiful High Desert setting is complemented by comfortable facilities. We’ll be sleeping in wooden A-frame cabins, all of which have 12 bunk beds, electricity, and heat. Hancock’s dining hall serves nutritious, homemade meals. All meals are covered by the registration fee (there will not be a meal Friday night).
Members are invited to arrive Friday evening and stay until Sunday morning.
