ONDA v. Singleton, 98-97-RE (Owyhee Wild and Scenic River)
January 28, 1998
Lawsuit challenging BLM's failure to adopt a wild and scenic river management plan for the Owyhee River that considers whether ongoing grazing is consistent with protection of the river's Congressionally- designated outstanding values.
Mar. 1, '01 through '08 - BLM files annual status reports (2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008) pursuant to court's modified permanent injunction barring grazing from areas of concern within Owyhee Wild and Scenic River corridor.
Oct. 31, '01 - Court issues second amendment to modified injunction.
Apr. 28, '00 - Court issues modified injunction.
Nov. 18, '99 - Court permamently enjoins livestock grazing from all “areas of concern” identified by BLM, with the permits for those AUMs to be eliminated rather than shifted to more lightly grazed areas.
Nov. 3, '98 - Court rules that BLM violated the WSRA by adopting a river management plan that failed to consider whether livestock grazing is consistent with the rivers' designated "outstandingly remarkable values." BLM ordered to prepare an EIS that considers reasonable alternatives to the proposed action.
Jan. 22, '98 - ONDA files lawsuit against BLM seeking to end grazing damaging wild and scenic river values in the Owyhee Wild and Scenic River.
