National poll shows tremendous public support for President Clinton's designation of three new National Monuments and for increased protection of wilderness lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management. With the end of the Clinton administration in sight, the President has let it be known that he wants to leave a land legacy. The Secretary of Interior, Bruce Babbitt, has been reviewing sites throughout the west for possible administrative protection, through the Antiquities Act of 1906. Steens is one of these sites.
